Our body is a microorganism factory that produces 100 billion to 1 trillion of bacteria everyday. These microorganisms mainly spread through our gastrointestinal tract, skin, reproductive organs, mouth and nose, throat and other parts of our body. Among the microorganisms existing in our intestines, over 99% are bacteria, the amounts are approximately 100 trillion. There are thousand types of bacteria, which include probiotics and harmful bacteria.

In a healthy intestine, the ratio of probiotics to harmful bacteria is 80 to 20. Probiotics are good for maintaining intestinal health and helps to cleanse the harmful elements; on the contrary, harmful bacteria will cause the decay of food residues in our intestines and produce harmful toxic and gases in our body.

Due to ageing, the unhealthy lifestyle, medicines, air pollutions, digestion problems, lack of dietary fibers and other factors could potentially lead to the decrease in probiotics in our body. It eventually provides a beneficial environment for the growth of harmful bacteria that could affect our intestinal and body health.

Commonly, 6 main symptoms will possibly emerge if our intestinal health has gone wrong:

1. Constipation:

Excrements become darker in colour, as well as having a harder and granular texture. Having a hard time to defecate and suffering from anal bleeding.

2. Acute or chronic diarrhoea:

Continuous defecation with a sense of urgency, discomforts in anus, excrement out of shape, increased moisture and frequent need to defecate.

3. Foul-smelling stools:

Excrement smells rather acidic, as we would experience normally. But, it is not okay when it smells particularly fetid.

4. Smelly gases:

It is possible that many harmful bacteria have produced a large amount of hydrogen sulphide in the intestine and caused the unpleasant smelling gases.

5. Bad breath:

Gases exhaled from the oral cavity and released a bad smell.

6. Skin problems:

The toxic inside the body could not be discharged in time and eventually absorbed by the human body. It could lead to rough, darkened skin with pimples and other skin conditions.

Dietary fibers contains beneficial substances for our intestinal health, it is called probiotics. Because of it being mostly water soluble, for instance, inulin and oligosaccharide, therefore dietary fibers can help in the growth of probiotics and bring the advantages of probiotics into play. Not only do dietary fibers help to cleanse the colon but it also contributes in probiotics growth and improves the intestinal problems that have been mentioned above.
