Menopause, also known as the ceasing of menstruation, is the period where women no longer experience menstruation. Menopause commonly happens between the age of 45 years old and 55 years old. In this period, the ovarian activity will gradually decline from the previous exuberant state while women will undergo tremendous changes, be it physically and psychologically. The declines and imbalances of hormone and endocrine function will manifest as different symptoms, including hot flashes, perspiration, agitation, losing sleep, palpitation, vaginitis, micturition, fatigue and others.

Even though menopause is a stage deemed to be undergone by every woman, every individual experience different things. It is safe to say that no one is the same in regards to the age of onset, symptoms, severity and the continuance of the stage. The conversion of menopause is easily influenced by many factors, such as biological inheritance, diet nutrition, living conditions, culture and education, financial ability and even the process of childbirth.

During menopause, due to the losing of estrogen protection, the possibilities of facing chronic health problems will also increase. For instance:

1. Cardiovascular diseases:
The decrease of estrogen level will cause the increase of bad cholesterols and triglycerides in the blood vessels, which eventually stimulate the risks of getting cardiovascular diseases.

2. Osteoporosis:
As the estrogen level decreases, the rate of bone loss will become much faster than that of bone growth and this will cause higher possibilities of getting osteoporosis and fractures.

3. Obesity:
The decline of estrogen will cause the overall metabolic rate lowered, where the fats increase and muscles decrease, subsequently lead to obesity.

4. Physiological function decreases:
The body tissues such as skin, breasts, vagina and bladder mucosa will gradually become slack and dry while losing its normal functions. There are also possibilities of suffering from local infections and urination problems.
