“I am not fat, it is just edema!” Have you heard someone saying this to you? Cannot seem to differentiate between edema and gaining weight? Most of us know the reason for gaining weight but do you know what causes edema? Today, PhytoFairy will share with you some information about edema.

The condition of edema is the build-up of fluid in the body’s tissue outside the blood vessel, which means there is excess fluid trapped in the body’s tissue. Edema may occur in any parts of the human body, typically it can be seen more frequently in our arms, hands and our lower limbs. The most significant symptom is the skin that retains a dimple (pits) for several seconds after being pressed. Gaining weight is closely related to our lifestyle and eating habits, therefore, edema can actually be linked to our lifestyle and eating habits as well.

1. High salt intake

2. Prolonged sitting or remain in a fixed position

3. Pregnant

4. Side effects due to medications

5. Hormonal changes

6. Deficiency in protein source

7. Illnesses, such as heart failure, cirrhosis, kidney problems, abnormal lymphatic system and other health issues.

If you think you might suffer from edema, PhytoFairy suggests you consult a doctor to find out the reason that leads to edema. We may also help ourselves to get rid of edema with healthier diet:

1. High potassium but low salt foods

Potassium can help discharge sodium in salt and relieve the condition of edema, for instance, mushrooms, algae, bananas and other foods rich in potassium. Meanwhile, cutting down the consumption of salt and sauces as well as reducing the intake of processed and pickled foods.

2. Maintain adequate protein consumption

Legumes, fish, eggs and meats are all protein rich foods. We are required to consume approximately three servings of full palm-sized protein everyday. Especially pregnant and breastfeeding women, they may have higher needs of protein, thus we need to observe if the condition of edema might be caused by inadequate intake of protein.

We know that PhytoNutri may provide us with rich protein which is formulated with 21 types of beans and whole grains. When we finish our meals, we can also have a glass of Phyto Chlorophyll which is added with chlorella, helping us quench the thirst and supplying potassium too.

This is it for sharing today, I hope this could offer some help you need!
